The root vegetable maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a member of the cruciferous family that also includes broccoli, cauliflower, and kale. In the high altitudes of the Andes mountains where Organika's maca root is grown, the harsh environment has shaped this superfood to be tough enough to withstand any environmental challenge. It passes its strength onto you. The roots are carefully selected, then washed before they are cut, cooked, dried and made ready for milling. Cacao is a bean grown on a tree native to central America. It provides high levels of beneficial flavonoids, including catechin, epicatechin, and procyanidins, which are powerful antioxidants. Cacao has more antioxidants than red wine, green tea, and blueberries combined. These antioxidants are known for their ability to decrease free radical damage that can contribute to cardiovascular disease and symptoms. Cacao is naturally high in magnesium, manganese and copper, helping to keep your systems and enzymes functioning optimally. Organika's organic maca undergoes a specialized procedure called gelatinization. Despite the name, this procedure does not involve gelatin in any form; it consists of splitting large starch chains into smaller molecules. This leads to a much smoother, less gritty experience for you. The additional slow cooking in Organika's gelatinization methods may enhance the availability of some nutrients and minerals.
